Managing Director

Thomas MacFarlane

Meet Thomas MacFarlane, the driving force behind True Group and the man with a vision that started in a garden and grew into a multi-division powerhouse. With roots in Leicestershire and Northumberland, Tom’s journey into the industry began alongside his grandfather in landscaping, an early introduction that quickly led to opportunities in forestry, ecology, and grounds maintenance across major UK projects.

Armed with qualifications in Horticulture, Arboriculture, and Construction Management, Tom has always blended hands-on experience with a strategic mindset. In 2015, he took the leap and founded Trueline, building it from the ground up into what’s now True Group, a growing collective of specialist divisions delivering across plant hire, haulage, aggregates, environmental contracting, and more.

As Managing Director, Tom is known for his ability to build dynamic, high-performing teams, allowing him the space to focus on strategic growth, spotting new opportunities, and pushing the business into exciting new territory. He thrives on the variation of each day and isn’t afraid to take calculated risks when it comes to expanding the business.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find him racing in the Honda Civic Trophy, out clay pigeon shooting, or walking his dogs, unless he’s indulging his inner (not-so-secret) Marvel super fan.

Tom’s passion lies in seeing his people and projects thrive, and in building a business that consistently exceeds expectations for clients, teams, and the communities they work in.

Group Operations Director

Craig Flowers

Craig grew up in Leicestershire and has always had a passion for heavy plant and machinery. That interest turned into a career back in 1998 when he began as an apprentice plant fitter at another plant hire firm. Fast forward to today, and Craig is a dynamic operational leader with years of experience managing businesses across the UK and Europe.

Following his love for safety and innovation, Craig led a team in 2017 to design and launch the KS12-16 chipping machine, debuted at Hillhead 2018. A proud achievement that’s gone on to raise industry standards in both safety and performance.

Craig’s career has taken him from the workshop floor to executive management, and along the way, he’s picked up an NVQ Level 6 in HSE for Minerals Processing, an International Transport Manager CPC, IOSH Managing Safely, HSE for Executives and Directors, and a suite of leadership and development courses. It’s fair to say he knows his way around both a machine and a boardroom.

He thrives in fast-paced environments, building high-performing teams, driving operational excellence, and always pushing for safer, smarter ways to work. His expertise spans everything operational – whether it’s leading large teams, improving efficiencies, or building strong relationships across the supply chain.

Craig loves the variety his role offers and takes pride in supporting his colleagues and clients to overcome challenges and achieve big wins. He’s particularly passionate about coaching and development and believes the right leadership can unlock extraordinary results.

Outside of work, Craig is a loyal Leicester Tigers fan and a devoted motor racing enthusiast, if it’s loud and fast, he’s interested. You won’t find Craig far from the action, always ready to roll up his sleeves and help drive the next big win.

Hire Manager

Kevin Robinson

Kevin grew up in Leicestershire and brings a strong work ethic and plenty of real-world industry experience to his role as Hire Manager at True Group. His journey into the plant hire world came through internal progression within the business, having first joined the team as a Class 1 HGV driver. With a natural understanding of logistics, plant equipment, and the day-to-day demands of busy sites, Kevin quickly proved himself and worked his way into a key role within the hire division.

Before joining True Group, Kevin built a varied career that included serving in the British Army, working as a fencing installer, and driving HGVs across the UK and Europe. Those experiences shaped the disciplined, organised, and practical approach he brings to the job today. Whether he’s coordinating equipment, managing logistics, or helping customers get exactly what they need, exactly when they need it (often while juggling several phone calls at once).

Kevin’s strengths lie in keeping things running smoothly and efficiently, with a strong knowledge of plant machinery, transport logistics, and the UK road network. He enjoys the fast-paced nature of the industry and the fact that no two days are ever quite the same, which is probably just as well, because standing still isn’t really his style.

Outside of work, Kevin is a proud family man. While he used to play football himself, these days you’ll usually find him on the sidelines supporting his sons as they play. Whether it’s early morning kick-offs, muddy pitches, or enthusiastic sideline coaching, he rarely misses a match and wouldn’t have it any other way.

For Kevin, great customer service is at the heart of everything. He takes pride in going the extra mile for clients and making sure every hire runs smoothly from start to finish, because in his view, if the customer’s happy, it’s been a good day.

Jess Wheatman

Jess grew up in Nottinghamshire and brings a refreshingly hands-on background to her role at True Group. After a career change prompted by health considerations, she was introduced to the world of health and safety and quickly realised it was a great fit. Since then, she’s developed a real passion for helping people stay safe, improving processes, and learning something new along the way.

Before moving into the industry, Jess spent four years living and working on boats (yes, actually living on them). During that time, she picked up an impressive range of practical skills including welding, spray foaming, joinery, marine electrics, and boat painting, both inside and out. It’s fair to say she’s not afraid to roll her sleeves up, and that practical mindset now plays a big part in how she approaches her role at True Group.

Jess has since built valuable experience in health and safety within residential construction and brings a people-first approach to the job. She holds IOSH Managing Safely, Emergency First Aid, and is currently nearing completion of her NEBOSH Health and Safety Management qualification. Combined with her BMET Marine Electrician certification, she brings a unique mix of technical know-how and practical problem solving to the team.

She particularly enjoys the variety the role brings, from learning new skills to supporting colleagues across the business. Jess is passionate about creating an environment where safety becomes second nature and everyone looks out for each other.

Outside of work, Jess enjoys travelling, long dog walks, and anything social, especially if it involves a trip to the pub with friends.

Grab, Aggregate & Transport Manager

Gary MacFarlane

With decades of hands-on experience and a passion for getting things done right, Gary is the driving force behind the True Grab & True Aggregates divisions. As Grab, Aggregate and Transport Manager, Gary is the guy who ensures the wheels stay turning – literally and figuratively.

Growing up between Scotland and Leicestershire, Gary’s early love for motors and mechanics led him to an apprenticeship at Kwik Fit, where he quickly climbed the ranks to Operations Manager, overseeing 15 centres across the East Midlands. That foundation in organisation, service and leadership made his transition into grab, aggregate and transport operations a natural next step, and one he’s taken on with full force.

Since joining True Group, Gary has played a major role in building the Grab and Aggregates division from the ground up. With a mechanical mind, a cool head under pressure, and an infectious enthusiasm for logistics, he keeps teams moving, machines working, and customers happy.

Known as a starter-finisher, Gary prides himself on seeing things through. He’s as comfortable out on-site visiting clients as he is planning behind the scenes, and his knack for coordination makes him a huge asset to both customers and colleagues.

What drives him? The buzz of leading a diverse team, solving complex transport puzzles, and continuing to grow the division into a well-oiled machine.

Outside of work, you’ll find him at the races, spending time with his grandson, or proudly backing his not-so-secret favourite team: Leicester City (Come on, you Foxes!).

Workshop Manager

Meet Adam, our Workshop Manager and the man who keeps everything running like a well-oiled machine (quite literally). Born and raised in Nottingham, Adam brings decades of hands-on experience, technical know-how, and a calm-under-pressure approach to True Group’s workshop operations.

Adam’s career began as an apprentice at a Jaguar and MG dealership, where he cut his teeth repairing everything from classic motors to crash-damaged vehicles. His skill and versatility eventually landed him at Midland Magneto, Nottingham’s oldest electrical workshop, and even led to an unexpected turn in the spotlight, spending four years working on and off screen for Discovery Channel car shows, carrying out major repairs and coordinating tight filming schedules.

Adam has spent the last 3.5 years, plays a key role in maintaining and managing our fleet, keeping everything safe, compliant, and ready for action. He’s the kind of person who can “apply himself to any situation” – and he means it. Calm, capable, and quietly brilliant, but it’s his natural ability to lead teams and deliver under pressure that really makes him stand out.

Outside of work, Adam is a proud and dedicated dad. When he’s not in the workshop, you’ll often find him supporting his daughter at her martial arts classes, a role he takes just as seriously as keeping the fleet running smoothly.
